Family Trips
With ten years of experience in youth ministry and education and with three children of their own, Matt and Laura have a heart to see families have the opportunity to travel together and to gain a greater understanding of the world beyond their home countries. We believe that an intentional missions trip to a foreign country has the power to radically change a child’s and a family’s perspective of faith, poverty, and other cultures.

With this in mind, Destined Traveler does host family trips, for individual families or small groups of families. While families will engage in some service projects together, there will be a heavy emphasis on education and cultural understanding of Asia. Each day will have intentional activities with opportunities for your family as a unit to talk about what you are experiencing. Obviously, activities will vary depending on the ages of the children, but some examples might include:
* Traveling to a Buddhist temple. Learning about Buddhism and prayer walking the temple grounds, while respectfully watching people practice their religion. Later, as a family unit, discussing how the Buddhist religion and the Christian ones are similar and different.
* Traveling by boat and elephant to a remote hill tribe village and spending a night in a primitive hut. Experiencing the simplicity and poverty, firsthand, while leaving a financial gift to help the village itself.
* Visiting a Children’s Home and participating in games, Bible lessons, meals with the children there.
* Physically working together to beautify an impoverished area with flowers.
* Listening to stories from nationals about their lives– growing up in Burma, coming to faith in Christ, etc.
* Teaching English at Children’s Homes or Universities (depending on the ages of your children).
* Travel / Cultural Activities. Families are sent into markets to find particular local foods to buy with local money, engage in city-wide scavenger hunts, take Thai cooking classes, navigate by local transport, etc.
* Family Building Activities such as Flight of the Gibbon, Waterfall Hikes, Elephant camps, etc.
The purpose of a DT Family Trip is to give your family a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience a foriegn country, while also building relationships within the family and engaging in spiritual growth together. Each trip is tailored according to the family’s desires and needs. They typically range from one to two weeks in length.
